MMU Nursing Plays Host to Student Quality Ambassadors

Today sees MMU play host to the induction of the next cohort of SQAs. This fabulous initiative has grown since its inception is 2011 starting with 5 students mainly nursing to now over 160 across a range of professions. MMU has supported the project since the beginning and has developed its own involvement supporting students to raise the profile of nursing both here at the university, in placement and nationally.

The SQA project started by Ann Butler funded by HENW was successful in winning the partnership award at the Student Nursing Times Awards last year. Many of the SQAs have also gone on to become Care Makers as part of the national drive to renew the values base of health care and ensure compassion is at the heart of everything we do.

Today’s event was organised by Anne-Marie Borneuf a senior lecturer in nursing who now has responsibility for managing the SQA cohorts at MMU. Activities were organised and delivered by a group of well established SQAs including our very own Ruth Perez Merino and Katie Evans.

The event will also see our students enlist the cohort of SQAs in becoming Dementia friends. Ruth is a dementia champion and will be inducting them into the awareness programme continuing the good work already underway to both raise awareness of the condition but also to do something positive to help.

We are all very proud of our SQAs and the work that they have all done in disseminating good practice and innovation to support more effective and compassionate care for people and their families.
